O. It is a mixture of clay and humus. I know because it is orange, brown with plant material in it.  Reilly

Q. What type of soil is it and how do you know?

A. It is humus because it's soft and a little moist. It's chunky and squishy. My soil is close to the bog and the pond. There are a lot of roots and It's easy to break up. It is very dirty and there are sticks.

O. I saw one worm and some other bugs in the soil. I saw a lot of ants and a big beetle.  I found just a tiny  bit of clay.

Q.What kind of soil is this?

O. There is a open spot in the garden. The soil is sand because it is rough, does not roll into a ball and does not make a smear. Next to the pond is clay because it is an orangie color, rolls into a ball, is really moist, and makes a good smear. Near the compost area it is humus because it is moist, does not roll into a ball, and makes a very small smear. In all of the areas expet the open spot has a tiny bit of sand. Ashley

What do you see? What kind of soil is it?  How do you know?

It felt hard so I thought it was clay. It also had a few dead tree stuff in it. This made me think it had humus in it.  Benjamin
