the flower is located at the front. (its the red one.)
The flower is half a finger long. It is pink, yellow, and red. It is called Gaillardia, Indian Blanket (North carolina museum of natural sciences). It has 11 petals. Not alot of bugs go to this flower. It has a spiky center, and it is green. It has red petals and a tip of yellow on the end of the petal. It has a very long stem ,with about 5 leaves to the end. Its about 6 (inches) long. It is located in the front of the picture above. It has 5 different colors a green center with black spikes. Next it has red yellow and orange petals. It is in front of a yellow flower. Down the spine of the plant there are about 4,5 leafs. I think the flower we chose is really pretty. There was not too many dead flowers. They were close together. It does not smell good. It smells like very old honey so do not smell it. It blooms in spring and is very cool!!

This is the Blue Flag Iris. It likes to have its feet wet and it grows in a pot in the pond. It was blooming in June. (Mrs. Geer)
This interesting plant has a flower delight with many green pie shaped lily pads. Beautiful white flowers
for a pretty performance with an awsome pedal dance, made by waves. The lily has 17 beautiful pedals. This plant's scientific name is the Nymphaea Odorata (North Carolina Museum Of Natural Sciences 2006). These pieces tied together flow gracefully among each other.
Plant Researched: SWAMP SUNFLOWER
The swamp sunflower (Information from North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences 2003) has numerous bright yellow petals on each stem. It can grow to enormous heights.
The swamp sunflower blooms in October. A scientific name for the swamp sunflower is "Helianthus angustifolius".
Helianthus comes from the greek words "helios" which means sun and "anthus" which means flower. (North Carolina Botinical Garden.)

PLANT:GOLDEN ALEXANDERS
THE ALEXANDERS HAVE A SMALL BROWN TRUNK AND WHITE PUFFY FLOWERS WITH YELLOW IN THE MIDDLE.
THERE ARE ALSO PURPLE AND SMALL BLUE BUGS ON IT TOO. THE LEAVES ARE A DARK GREEN COLR THAT HAVE HOLES IN THEM. I THINK THE BUGS EAT THE HOLES IN THE PLANT. THE ALEXANDERS ARE ABOUT AS TALL AS MY CHEST. THE LEAVS HAVE PURPLE TIPS. I THINK THE PLANT IS REALY COOL!

Plant:Coral Honeysuckle (North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences 2003)
I saw some honeysuckle in the utotes garden. It was very tall, and it grows on a wooden pole. It was hot pink. I saw some blossoms on the floor. There were ants all over them like little vultures on a dead deer, but a flower.

The hairgrass
The hairgrass is one of the beautifulplants in the Utotes garden.
It has very thin stems, purple ones, and if you walk by it, it will tickle your skin.
Put your hand in it. Doesn't it feel like a spiderweb? Or maybe it feels like a
cloud with small butterflies.
Notice the stems? One of them could be as thin as 3 strands of your hair!
Now that's thin isn't it? I thought so too :). Imagine three strands of hair!
But again, altogether they make a small soft cloud. A very soft cloud. It is about 5 foot long. You could almost sleep on it! It looks like tall grass with purple flower buds. Maybe that is why they call it hairgrass.
You know Webkinz fur? That`s what Hairgrass feels like. All purple and bushy it stands with ladybugs all over. Tickling is its game, Hairgrass is its name.
Miosquatos buzz and live in the fluffy cloud. Home to every little bug that likes a soft cloud of love, Hairgrass would be cozy. One easy fact to remember its name, its littlle purple stands feel like hair! Mostly found in the pine flat woods and coastal beach dunes. (North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences 2003.)
Soft, purple, very cozy. You can even sleep in it! If you`d like.
